To shutdown.
shutdown             #shutdown after 60s
shutdown now     #shutdown now
shutdown -F        #shutdown forcefully


To reboot.
shutdown -r         #reboot - flush cache to disk
shutdown -Fr       #reboot forcefully
reboot                 #Do not flush cache to disk
